Let's Get Glorious About Our Health

The Glorious Church

What Does It Mean for Jesus to Come Back for a Glorious Church? (Ephesians 5:27)

Scripture:

“That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”Ephesians 5:27 (KJV)

One of the most awe-inspiring promises in Scripture is the return of Jesus Christ for His Church. Ephesians 5:27 gives us a glimpse of what Christ desires for His Bride—the Church—when He comes back. But what does it mean for the Church to be “glorious, without spot or wrinkle”? Let’s explore the depth of this powerful verse.

A Church Without Spot or Wrinkle: Purity and Holiness

The imagery of a “spot or wrinkle” suggests moral and spiritual purity. Just as a bride prepares herself for her wedding day, the Church must be cleansed from sin, worldliness, and compromise.

  • Without Spot – Free from the stains of sin (1 John 1:7).
  • Without Wrinkle – Unblemished by hypocrisy, division, or complacency.

Christ’s sacrifice on the cross made this purification possible (Hebrews 9:14). As believers, we must continually walk in repentance and sanctification, allowing the Word of God to cleanse us (John 15:3).

A Glorious Church: Radiant in His Presence

The word “glorious” speaks of divine beauty, honor, and splendor. This is not the Church’s own glory but the reflection of Christ’s glory shining through her.

  • Transformed by His Word – As we abide in Scripture, we are conformed to His image (2 Corinthians 3:18).
  • Empowered by the Spirit – The Holy Spirit works in us to produce the fruit of righteousness (Galatians 5:22-23).
  • Unified in Love – A glorious Church is one where love, humility, and unity prevail (John 17:21).

Prepared for the Bridegroom’s Return

Jesus is coming back for a Church that is ready—not just individually, but collectively. This means:

  • Living in Expectation – Watching and praying (Matthew 25:1-13).
  • Walking in Obedience – Aligning our lives with God’s Word (1 John 2:6).
  • Fulfilling Our Mission – Spreading the Gospel and making disciples (Matthew 28:19-20).

Conclusion: Are We Ready?

Ephesians 5:27 is both a promise and a challenge. Jesus is returning for a radiant, spotless Bride—not because we are perfect in ourselves, but because He has made us holy through His blood and is sanctifying us daily.

As the Church, let us examine our hearts, pursue holiness, and shine brightly for His glory. The day is coming when we will stand before Him—may we be found faithful, prepared, and glorious in His sight!

“Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”Revelation 22:20
